A220 - Student Support and Personal Tutoring

The issue of support for students outside formal teaching sessions is becoming more important in UK HE. This session will explore ways of supporting students, and consider the different roles which personal tutors may adopt.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of support for students outside formal teaching sessions
  • Identify ways in which student learning can be supported through a personal/academic tutor role
  • Identify the possible roles of a personal tutor and ways in which these can be developed
  • Assess the boundaries of the personal tutor role and identify ways to articulate these to students
