R182 - Presenting Your Research to an Audience (Day 1)

Suitable for postgraduate research students who wish to improve their public speaking and presentation skills in preparation for delivering a conference paper or departmental talk.

Participants MUST attend BOTH sessions and will be required to do some preparation between scheduled sessions.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss what makes an effective presentation by considering both verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Deliver a successful and coherent presentation to explain their research to a non-specialist but academic audience
  • Prepare an action plan for the development of their own presentation skills
