Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Have improved confidence when talking about themselves, their research and career goals
  • Have greater confidence in approaching other (potentially more senior) academics
  • Have drafted an "elevator pitch" about their research and practised it amongst your peers
  • Have scrutinised their current research network, and thought about how they might expand it in a manner that is independent of that of their current supervisor/mentor
  • Have thought about the sorts of contacts they might want to add to their network in order to help them transition out of academia, if they are planning to leave the sector.
