RS406 - Managing an academic career (For PhDs and Postdocs)

Being a successful and effective academic researcher involves more than producing outstanding research and publishing well. Early career academics often let their values dictate the career paths they follow. Moreover, a good understanding of how various elements within a university's research infrastructure work, as well as that of the larger UK HE sector like the Research Excellence Framework (REF), the RCUK Impact agenda and UK Research Council decision panels, are all essential as well. We will discuss how growing your networks and engaging key stakeholders in your research will also be important elements in developing your academic career.
This course is intended for postdoctoral and early career researchers who want to continue towards an academic research post. Academic career progression strategies, CV-writing tips will also be discussed.
