HS004 - Manual Lifting and Handling

A two hour course intended for all staff interested in learning how to lift and shift heavy objects, on a regular basis or from time to time, without sustaining injury.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • At the end of the session participants will: Be aware of the general requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992,
  • Understand the basic structure of the lower back and understand how to use posture in minimising physical stresses on the body during lifting,
  • Be able to carry out basic assessment of manual handling risks in terms of the task, the load, the working environment and physical capabilities of the individual
