HS042 - First Aid for Laboratory Workers

This short course is aimed at staff and PhD students who work in laboratory’s. It covers Basic Life Support, how to deal with chemical burns and contamination including specific guidance on Hydrofluoric acid, Liquid Nitrogen and Phenol and contaminated sharps injuries.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider.
  • Be able to assess, deal with and report an incident / not breathing normally
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is / breathing normally
  • Be able to recognise, manage and provide first aid for illnesses and injuries in the workplace, which includes burns and bleeding. Injuries to bones and muscles. Head, spinal and chest injuries. Poisoning and anaphylaxis. Asthma and diabetes.
