Course Detail

PD147 - Introduction to Copyright Card Game

This course will introduce you to the legal definitions of copyright, what it covers and how it is applied. It will also cover licences and exceptions allowed under the law.

The course is suitable for anyone with an interest in copyright but may be particularly relevant to those in administrative, research, and teaching roles. PhD students please note that you may book to attend this course but it will not accrue points towards your PhD’s professional development scheme and cannot be logged as part of this. Please email profdev@qmul.ac.uk if you have queries about the suitability of this course.

The course will include presentations and opportunities to participate in activities such as a “game of cards” and a “judge & jury” session to enhance your understanding of the topic.

Copyright compliance is a legal requirement but one that is too often overlooked; this course will ensure you have the basic skills to follow best practice in your work role.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • identify the areas covered by copyright legislation
  • identify whether materials comply with the legislation
  • know how licences and legal exceptions operate
  • follow appropriate legal and institutional procedures relating to copyright
  • apply their knowledge to their own context
