Course Detail

RS415 (POSTPONED Until further notice) - Introduction to Engaging with Schools and Families

In this workshop we discuss how directly engaging younger audiences can serve as effective means to not only disseminate but also inform your research.

During this session we will discuss several examples of good practice from QMUL and UK researchers who have engaged schools and children, and discuss the various barriers and challenges when trying to work with both school groups and individuals.

Finally, we will also discuss practical and logistical elements in planning and running the events which will help to provide you with evidence and potential metrics of direct impact on those in attendance and the means to explore and exploit that information.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand how presenting to schools and children fits into the landscape of public engagement
  • Identify examples of good practice in the area both within QMUL and nationwide
  • Become more acquainted with the relevant tools and techniques to maximise the impact of your school event
  • Have gained Insight on how to evidence an event for children, and potential aims and metrics
