RD009 - Building Willpower and Motivation

Audience: All researchers (including staff and PhD students)

The second of four workshops designed to help researchers build psychological robustness. The ability to maintain your motivation when your research and/or other aspects of your life are proving challenging is key to being successful, so in this workshop we will look at some of the leading theories and models regarding willpower. We will also explore the concepts of resilience (i.e. our ability to bounce back from adversity) and self-efficacy (i.e. our confidence in our ability to exert control over our motivation and behaviour). We will learn some practical techniques that our “inner coach” can use to help us improve our willpower and increase our resilience and self-efficacy.

(Please note this workshop was previously entitled: Boosting Willpower and Resilience.)

Keywords: resilience, self-efficacy, maintaining motivation
