RI004 (RI004) - Introduction to Impact

Research Impact – different meanings, different definitions, different pathways.

This session will explain impact fundamentals and further explore ways of achieving and creating impact from the QMUL science and engineering research. We will provide guidance on how to start thinking about creating impact from research, and give information on how QMUL Faculty of Science and Engineering supports Research Impact. Part of the session will be spent on discussing and developing research impact ideas.

These sessions are intended for the QMUL FSE research and research support/staff (ECRs and PhD students strongly encouraged to attend). We expect this training to be in high demand: please book only one date at any one time and cancel well in advance if you are unable to attend.

Please also note that the Impact Team offers 1-to-1 meetings and Impact Drop-In sessions for discussing and developing impact activities.

This session will be delivered in two parts. In the first half we will cover aspects of research impact that will be relevant to all researchers. In the second half we will focus on working through examples of impact relating specifically to science and engineering research.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Define impact for UKRI and REF
  • Discuss impact planning tools
  • List Who's Who in impact support at Queen Mary
