Course Detail

RS403 - Research Impact – The REF, RCUK Pathways, and EU Horizon

Audience: Senior PhDs and Research Staff

Impact is an enigmatic term that UK researchers hear in many contexts. In general it is an attempt to qualify the "real-world impact" of the research carried out in UK HEIs. This course will examine the RCUK Impact agenda and how it applies to your research. We will also examine the difference between this approach to impact and those used by the REFand the European Commission's Horizon 2020 funding framework.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Have a greater understanding of impact as it applies to research.
  • Learn to recognise and increase the impact in your research.
  • Learn to write about impact in research and funding proposals.
  • Distinguish between various major Impact frameworks: The REF, RCUK Pathways statements and H2020's societal challenges.
