By the end of this course, participants should be able to: Identify the role of academics in supporting students with their academic and pastoral needs
Recognise where challenges can arise when setting boundaries and managing student expectations
Apply student support strategies/techniques to case studies provided by: QMUL

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of support for students outside formal teaching sessions
  • Identify ways in which student learning can be supported through a personal/academic tutor role
  • Identify the possible roles of a personal tutor and ways in which these can be developed
  • Assess the boundaries of the personal tutor role and identify ways to articulate these to students
