Course Detail

PD142 - Speed Reading for Professional Services Staff

This course will give you ideas for improving the effectiveness of your reading habits (in any language). It invites you to think about what is meant by “reading” and to develop your own strategies for tackling your reading load. The course is enjoyable and challenging.

This half day course is suitable for: Professional Services, Support & Academic staff (apologies, we will not accept bookings from PHD students or students at any level and may verify your staff role to confirm or cancel your booking).

1. Participants must bring to the workshop a textbook and/or paper to use for some of the reading exercises.
2. You may wish to also consider booking the Mindmapping for Professional Services Staff (PD139) which is closely related and takes place on the same day - please search for PD139 and make a booking.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand how their eyes and brain process text and feel confident about using this understanding to their advantage
  • Learn and practise techniques to read documents quickly and effectively
  • Focus on note-making techniques which they can take away to practise
  • Understand the importance of having a clear strategy for managing their reading load
