Course Detail

PD230 (Fully booked) - The Active Bystander: awareness training for staff

Please note: we will not accept bookings from PHD students or students at any level on this training and may verify your staff role to confirm or cancel your booking.

This is a QMUL staff training course designed to assist in tackling unacceptable behaviour and to support reporting procedures and the Report and Support facility when incidents may be witnessed.

Please note that this is a staff-only workshop, which at times will be offered by invitation only.

The course will develop decision-making and personal effectiveness techniques to overcome the initial fear of tackling challenging situations. Each participant will receive and work on the Active Bystander toolkit – a take-home booklet containing assertive verbal and non-verbal language techniques to use when mounting a challenge or reporting bad behaviour.

This training programme has been developed in the UK by Scott Solder and is used within several UK universities and HE establishments. It has won the 2018 Universities Human Resources (UHR) Award for Organisational Development and Culture Change. All copyright rests with the developer.
