RD-QMA-007 - Academic Peer Review (2 DAYS COURSE)

All researchers (including staff and PhD students)

This workshop will be hosted online.
You will receive joining instructions via email 2 weeks in advance of the session and again 2 days in advance.

This course takes place over multiple days and you are required to attend all sessions.

This course is intended for those with little or no experience of performing peer review, and will promote discussion of its importance to a means of quality control for academic research in the sciences and social sciences, and why you should participate in it.

We will discuss some general approaches and then focus specifically on how it is applied to the publication process in journals and periodicals, and how you might participate in it; and to how it operates in awarding research funding.

The course includes perspectives from journal editors and QMUL academic staff who have participated in peer review for research funding. We will examine a light-hearted paper submitted to the British Medical Journal, a publication that uses a transparent peer-review process and use this to inform some discussions on the process.
